Ah, Mother’s Day. A whole day to relax and be pampered. Mine started out with loud whispering, “Daddy, can I watch ‘Fantastic Four’?”, “SHHHHH, don’t wake Mommy. It’s Mother’s Day!” Nice try. I appreciated the effort.
Later , J.T. gave me three handmade cards. And by far, my favorite is the one he wrote in cursive that compared me to an amphibian, a pre-historic mammal, an anteater and a bird that picks gunk out of alligator teeth. Some might find this a little off putting, but knowing my animal loving son, these are the biggest compliments I could ever receive.
The snake-like amphibian he compared me to, he explained, is known to protect their young. The pre-historic mammal provides food, the anteater represented giving attention, and the gator-mouth-cleaning bird symbolized helping other people. That’s tear jerker stuff right there, if only to this mom.
Happy Mother’s Day to everyone who protects, provides, helps and loves.
That is so cool…I got a card that I had to MAKE Taylor do in class. She had no desire to “love”me on Mother’s Day. I’m happy for you!! Must suck to have your mom as your teacher too. =)
Priceless. You’re gonna miss all that someday.
Eryn,
I love that. What a clever little guy you have.
That is just gorgeous.
I got to babysit my 5-year-old great-nephew on Friday night. We were cuddling in my bed telling funny stories when he pokes my stomach and says ‘why is your belly big!’ No I am not pregnant, but I’ve gained about ten pounds. So I laughed and said ‘cuz I eat too much!’ His answer, ‘you should exercise!’
Yeah I know that, but I’m too lazy! This from a 5-year-old who loves me with all his heart! I think he’ll grow up to a typical man! LOL!
Diana, That’s so cute! J.T. and my mom had a similar discussion, he had noticed she was smaller than in some other pictures. He told her he loved her now and all the other ways she’d been. Ah, if we could just bottle ‘em up at this age!
I can’t wait for homemade cards! My 1st mother’s day with Callie consisted of her waking up every hour and a half through the night and then while I was trying to “sleep in” my husband was trying to watch her and cook me breakfast at the same time. Needless to say, I got up to see what all the crying was about and was back on duty. Actually, we had a wonderful day!
I love that story!! It made my Mother’s Day and again today as I reread it. Who said guys aren’t sensitive. That is the BEST.
